The C5 Tourer is superbly refined. The acoustic glass insulates the cabin from wind and road noise well. The torquey 2.2-litre engine offers decent poke and is connected to a slick six-speed Euro NCAP crash testing. In Euro NCAP crash testing, the Mk.1-II C5 received a five star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 35.93 out of 37. In the offset crash test, there was a slight risk of serious lower leg injury for the driver; in the side impact test, there was a slight risk of serious chest injury for the driver.
In a heavy Citroen C5 2.gen. (1.7 t), the engine's dynamics are a little damp, but it is sufficient for normal driving and, compared to the weaker 1.6 HDi, offers significantly more power, especially when the vehicle is loaded and accelerated when overtaking. The C5 was launched in mid 2001 in hatchback and estate guises and ushered in a new era for Citroen.
